Worries

I have noticed a change in myself since beginning this journey of self-employment and daily reflection. I, like most women, have more clothes than I need. I have more purses, shoes, coats, jewelry and many other things than I will ever need.

However, I have not had a desire to buy more since leaving my full-time job. I have become more comfortable wearing what “feels right” each day and even opting for no make up most days. I can honestly say that it is really nice to not worry about what I look like all the time. It was something that used to overwhelm me and consume entirely too much of my thoughts and worries.

The flip side is that I have developed a deeper understanding of myself and those around me, and have begun to worry about more meaningful things. You would think that it would be good to self-reflect more often and be more in tune with your emotions (and it is), but it is proving to be extremely challenging and testing my limits.

We take for granted the trivial worries in our lives and all too often wish they would disappear. But what we don’t realize is that when those materialistic worries are gone our minds will inadvertently find something else to think about and fixate on. Don’t get me wrong, I am thankful to be able to have this opportunity to reflect more on myself and the world around me, but I underestimated the power our thoughts and worries can have on our lives.

The more connected we become to ourselves, the more we have to face the harsh truths about life and our own downfalls. We become more aware of our emotions and actions due to this heightened sense of mindfulness. Although this is difficult, being able to accept ourselves for who we truly are and are working to be is the ultimate reward. Worries will not change the outcome, only action and grace will allow you to accept the circumstances you are in and move forward with confidence.

We are all a work in progress, so remember to give yourself grace. You will have good days and bad days and you will not always control your emotions. In those moments choose to learn and grow. Try to reflect deeper on who you are and who you want to be and embrace the bumps along the way. Life goes on whether you have a good or bad hair day.
